Artificial intelligence in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central today comes in several forms. The first is Copilot, an assistant that works alongside you, suggests, analyzes, and helps you complete tasks faster. The second are Agents, autonomous AI workers that take over entire processes and perform them independently, with minimal human involvement. Together, these two approaches cover almost all areas of business.
AI features that save time
Copilot features help everyone, regardless of their role within the company.
Through the chat option, you can ask Copilot a question in plain language, and it will find the data you need, offer links to relevant records, or explain how something works in the system. Instead of wasting time navigating menus, you simply ask and get what you need.
Analysis assist is useful when you have a list of data and want to extract meaning from it. You describe what you want to see, and Copilot organizes the data into an analytical view with groups, filters, and totals, all without leaving Business Central.
The Summarize function provides a summary of key information tailored to your role in the company. Instead of going through every field, you get an overview of what matters, along with links to details when needed.
Autofill reduces manual data entry by suggesting values for fields based on existing system data. Your role is simply to review and accept the suggestions.
For finance
Financial teams may benefit the most from AI features in Business Central.
The Payables Agent monitors your company mailbox, recognizes incoming vendor invoices, extracts data, matches them with purchase orders, and suggests general ledger accounts for items it could not automatically match.
E document matching helps with processing electronic invoices. Copilot suggests matching e invoice lines with purchase order lines and highlights exceptions, speeding up the entire process and reducing errors.
When it is time for bank reconciliation, Copilot suggests matching transactions with ledger entries and proposes accounts for those it could not match. Tasks that used to take hours can now be completed much faster.
For procurement and inventory management
When an item is out of stock or discontinued, Copilot automatically suggests suitable alternatives. Sales and service teams can continue processing orders instead of wasting time searching.
For sales and marketing: From email to order
The Sales Order Agent automates the processing of sales orders via email. When a customer sends an inquiry, the agent finds the contact in the system, identifies what is requested, and generates a quote for your review. Once the customer confirms, the agent automatically converts the quote into an order.
Sales line suggestions work by allowing you to write a few words, paste part of a conversation, or attach a file, and Copilot will identify the appropriate items and add them to the quote or order.
Marketing text suggestions is a feature that writes product descriptions for you. Based on item attributes already in the system and the tone you choose, Copilot generates text ready for publishing. If you use Shopify integration, you can publish that text directly to your online store.
AI that predicts, not just reacts
In addition to generative AI, Business Central uses other types of machine learning for specific tasks.
Search for pages and reports uses AI to semantically connect what you type with available pages and reports in the system, even when you do not use the exact name.
Inventory forecasting analyzes historical sales data to estimate future demand and support procurement planning.
Payment delay prediction evaluates open invoices and flags those at risk of late payment, giving you enough time to act before issues arise.
Cash flow analysis uses current documents and historical data to provide clearer insight into future liquidity.
