The right moment for a company to change systems or processes does not exist. Change is always a disruption in business and therefore this is the best moment for those who can afford it, said Petar Miljković (GoPro, CEO) in an interview with eKapija. In that way, they will deviate from the competition, which either does not want to or cannot do that and will be in a much better position.
In every crisis, there are repetitive patterns of behavior.
Given that this is my third major crisis in my 20-year-long career, I see some recurring patterns. The first reaction is that everything completely stops. Like when you enter a dark room, first you stop not to stumble, and then your eyes slowly get used to the darkness and you can move on. And whoever gets used to it and uses this situation when there is a little more “air”, and in which the environment is changing, he can expect progress – he explains.
Unlike previous crises, in this crisis a higher percentage of companies have adapted faster, and as the main reason for that, Petar Miljković (GoPro, CEO) points out education.
The Internet boom in Serbia and the experience from the crisis in 2008 have contributed to making information about what other companies are doing more accessible than before. Companies could look at experiences from some other, more advanced markets. Now, compared to the period of 10 years ago, companies in Serbia are much more educated and I can say that based on direct conversations with clients and potential clients. Everyone we talk to has already decided to improve their business. And I think we should continue to educate potential customers about that.
There are still those who are traditional and will not change their way of doing business, but a higher percentage of companies understand that things change quickly and that they must be able to adapt to the new environment. During the state of emergency, GoPro completed an entire project completely online. Something like this presents a huge progress for the Serbian market.
When the pandemic ends, the Serbian market will take an advantageous position in terms of modernizing business. However, the full recovery of the economy will continue to depend on external factors.
